How to Catch Drip Goby in How to Fish
Use the Beginner Lure pool to farm Drip Goby, recognize the rainbow-name variant, and avoid wasting money on higher-tier or boss bait.
Quick answer
Use a Beginner Lure in the regular beginner fishing pool. Catch Goby repeatedly until one appears with an unusual skin and a rainbow-colored name. That catch is Drip Goby. There is no separate Drip lure, and using a higher-tier lure moves you into a different fish pool instead of improving the Drip chance.
Drip Goby setup
| Setting | What to use |
|---|---|
| Target | Goby, then its random Drip variant |
| Lure | Beginner Lure |
| Fishing pool | The early-game Beginner Lure pool |
| Special weather or time | None currently verified |
| Special Drip bait | None |
| How to identify it | Unusual appearance and rainbow-colored name |
| How to register it | Kill the Drip Goby, then check Fishipedia with Tab |
Our route calls the Beginner Lure area the Forest / Island 2 stage. Some community guides number the playable areas differently, so use the available lure and fish pool as the reliable check rather than relying only on an island number.
Fastest reliable farming loop
- Open Fishipedia with
Taband confirm that Drip Goby is the missing entry. - Travel to the early area where the Beginner Lure pool is available.
- Equip the normal Fishing Rod and a Beginner Lure.
- Catch every bite from that pool; ordinary Goby catches confirm the setup is correct.
- Watch the name above each catch. A rainbow-colored name marks a Drip creature.
- Kill the Drip Goby so the entry registers, then reopen Fishipedia to confirm it.
The game does not currently publish a verified Drip spawn percentage. A long dry streak does not prove the location or lure is wrong if ordinary Goby still appears. Bring several Beginner Lures and judge the setup by the normal fish pool, not by the number of failed casts.
Why Drip Goby is not appearing
- Wrong lure tier: Standard, Professional, Scientific, and Boss Lures use different catch pools. Switch back to Beginner Lure.
- Looking for a unique spawn point: Drip Goby is a random variant of a normal Goby, not a placed quest creature.
- Waiting for weather or a time window: no repeatable weather or time requirement has been verified.
- Leaving after one normal Goby: a normal catch proves the pool, but the Drip roll still requires more attempts.
- Not completing the entry: catch and kill the Drip creature, then confirm the separate Fishipedia slot with
Tab.
Should you keep or spend it?
If your goal is the Fishipedia achievement, make sure the Drip Goby has been killed and logged. Drip creatures can also be inserted into a Reel of Fortune machine for a random cosmetic skin, but that use is separate from identifying and registering the variant.
For the full early fish pool, use the fish database. For a collection-wide route, continue with the rare variants guide, and use the bait guide before changing lure tiers.
